All Dawgs go to Heaven R.I.P Phife

Growing up I think it’s safe to say that Hip Hop played a part in raising me. TLC – Crazy, Sexy, Cool was my favorite album back then and I will never forget the first song on that album. The intro laid down by Phife Dawg, the first day I heard it I remember playing it on repeat until I learned all the words, and could rhyme on beat. “It’s like that y’all, my names Malik the five foot freak, it’s like that ya’ll”– his voice over beat flowed so smoothly, I was fan ever since.

Road trips with my father meant rap trivia in the car. We would go verse for verse trying to out shine each other on who knows what lyrics…Scenario, Electric Relaxation, Can I Kick It, Check the Rhyme-straight classics!  A Tribe called Quest put out these albums before I was even born. Legendary enough to this day their music still lives on decades after their release. Phife dawg and the Tribe helped to shape the cultured I love so much and the culture I am in now. This week Hip Hop has lost a great one, Phife dawg, gone but never forgotten, the Tribe lives forever.
